Welcome Message from the Executive Director

Every day Trinity Center offers hope to people who are homeless or at risk of being homeless.  At Trinity Center hope takes the form of positive action  –meals, showers, laundry, an address to receive mail, referrals for housing, mental/physical health services, substance use counseling, jobs and job training.  We depend upon our volunteers to help us make us offer hope and opportunity.  Please browse the current list of needs below and contact the person listed or our Volunteer Director,  Carol Lombard: carol@trinitycenterwc.org.

Member Advocacy (MA) Volunteer Opportunities

Current openings for MA volunteers who wish to work directly with our members:

  • Mondays: 1st and 3rd of the month – AM+PM
  • Thursdays: 2nd and 4th of the month – AM

Trinity Center Walnut Creek is Welcoming volunteers to assist our member advocates. We have 3-4 hour shifts, or in the morning or in the afternoon. Exact time is flexible.

Your primary duties and responsibilities in this position will be:

  1. Obtain intake information for first time arrivals and annual updates
  2. Interview the individual and complete the intake form. This will involve some discussion in getting acquainted with the new member, asking questions and explaining Trinity Center rules for guests.
  3. Connect with our members
  • There are always members present in our living room. They are at Trinity Center for our services and to take a rest, but a lot of them would love to have a conversation with volunteers or to play a game etc.
  • Significant information has to be reported with our member advocates
  • Administration help for our Member advocates
  • Helping our Member advocates with paperwork

Preferable skills

  • (Motivational) Interviewing
  • Comfortable talking with our members
  • Team player
  • Organization skills

Evening Program Volunteer Opportunities

 

Volunteer Driver AM Shift 6:30 – 7:30 AM

Transport clients between Trinity Center and the Armory using your own vehicle.

Volunteers Provide Dinner 5:30 – 7 PM

Volunteers Provide, Serve & Clean Up Hot Dinner
Needed 7 Nights a week – December 3rd to March 29th

This activity is perfect for individuals or a church, civic, work, or family group.

Nightly Hot Dinners at Trinity Center – Provide and serve and clean up hot dinner for members of the Trinity Center Evening Program (30+ diners each night). Food safety guidelines apply*

Dinner is served at Trinity Center (1271 S California Blvd) at 5:30 PM prior to members being transported to The Armory at 7 PM. (transportation to Armory is another volunteer opportunity).

*No food served at Trinity Center may be prepared in home kitchens. Please contact Pam McGrath (pamm@trinitycenterwc.org) for assistance with meal planning.  Groups may use food provided by Trinity Center if available.

Volunteer Driver PM Shift 6:30 -7:30 PM

Transport Evening Program members between Trinity Center and Armory using your own vehicle. Valid drivers license and auto insurance required.

Volunteer Floor Monitor 1st Shift 7 – 10  PM

1st shift floor monitor at the Armory.  Assist staff with program activities. Shift can start at 7 PM at the Armory or at Trinity Center at 6:30 PM to help transport members to the Armory

Flu shot is required.

Volunteer Breakfast Bag Prep & Deliver 7 AM Saturday and Sunday mornings

(or deliver to Trinity Center Fridays before 5 PM)

Volunteer group activity for 3-5 people to prepare and deliver 25 bag lunches for for each weekend morning (Saturday and Sunday). Suggested contents: granola bars, oranges, bananas, trail mix, water/juice, commercially prepared sandwiches or snack packs. Health Codes prohibit Trinity Center from distributing any food that has been prepared in a home kitchen. Please do not put items in the bag that require refrigeration.

Bags can be dropped off at Trinity Center either before 5 PM Friday, or Saturday / Sunday mornings by 7 AM.

Volunteer Drivers for Trinity Center members who need transportation to Armory after work

Time varies. Pick up at WC BART between 8 – 11 PM . Valid drivers license and auto insurance required.

Deliver a case of water to Trinity Center for Armory Weekdays between 9 AM – 4 PM

(Two cases of water per week are needed)

 

TC Day Program Volunteer Opportunities

Floor Monitor – On Call Weekends

With your help, Trinity Center can offer a warm, dry, safe place during the day on inclement weather weekends for our most vulnerable homeless. We will be able to open on weekend days through March 31 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. by staffing the center with Trinity staff and Volunteers. The decision to be open Saturday and/or Sunday will be made each Thursday, based upon the weekend weather forecast. We would serve up to 15 Trinity Center members who are over the age of 50 with a disability, or members with life-threatening physical conditions.

 Donation Room

  • Sort and categorize all incoming donations
  • Repack items that need to be re-donated to other organizations
  • Stock clothing shed
  • Shift are open to volunteer’s availability

 Clothing Shed:

  • Attend shed at all open hours
  • Shifts are generally mornings and afternoons for 2-21/2 hrs.
  • Log member name and acquisitions
  • Work with donation room volunteer to stock sorted donations
  • Keep shed clean and in good order

 Food Pantry

  • Attend shed during all open hours
  • Shift is afternoon for 2-21/2 hrs.
  • Log member name and acquisitions
  • Receive and sort donated and purchased food items; stock shelves
  • Keep shed clean and in good order

 Conduct drives for clothing, food, toiletries, back packs, tarps, rain gear, etc.

This is appropriate for individuals, groups, schools, young people

 Groups are welcome to arrange a day to serve lunch
